New Year Fever: is it required?

2008 goes and a new year '2009' comes. Time for new aspirations, new apprehensions, new beginnings (of course, beginnings have to be new :P). Everybody is enthusiastic to get a  new perspective of life and get deeper and more satisfying pleasure from it. No matter how bad or good the passing year has been, one always looks forward for the oncoming year with great vigour and expectation.
And then you party around the whole of 31st night, eating into the morning of 1st as well. You send greeting cards, e-cards, e-mails, sms and other things jamming the servers of the all important electronic communication. Then you go around the next week wishing each and every guy or gal whom you think you might have some remote acquaintance. Do you bother to remember who all wished you or if thats too tedious do you atleast remember whom you have  wished. Ok not all, atleast say some 60-70% of them.

So you dont remember most of this wishing business, then why do we do it? Is it a trend? a culture? a nuisance? Junta these day spend a lot of money over this occasion of new year on a variety of things. Spending it on family vacations, clothes, etc are all great but whats the point in partying like as if the world's gonna end tonight, getting so drunk that you cant differentiate between a spoon and a vodka stirrer.  Then you are all suffering from a hangover on the first day of this new year where you wanted to turn over a new leaf.

Hey hang on, before you start thinking I m  some sort of a sadist and againist new year celebrations; its just that I want each one of you, who celebrate it to reason out why you do it. We wish each other mainly because we hope with all our fingers crossed to have the courage and determination to face the coming year for ourselves. Each person who wishes us increases our confidence in facing the future challenges. We party, spend money like water, pamper ourselves with goodies only to increase the 'feel-good' factor. Man is a very optimistic charcater. He builds around himself trenches of hope, faith and goodwill to batter the tides of failure, bad luck and deriliction.

So at last, I hope my intention has become clear to you. Enjoy the new years as they come by, but also know why one celebrates them. Cherish those special moments, drive away the times that have let you down and face the future with hope and a clear mind. And you will never be looking down again.

HangOver

Well its been over a month since I posted something. Not that I was very busy or something... just became ill. Ill, yes; the cause- gaming hangover but to put it more correctly entertainment hangover.

!!!!!!!!!! surprised? well nothing much to be surprised off.

Had been gaming quite a lot after my quizzes got over. Some really stud games like Crysis and DMC 4. It always happens so. You know after you play stud games all other games look so mediocre and sometimes even stupid and irritating. And to worsen the case I had been watching the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S and that too ended about nearly the same time. 10 seasons of pure hilarious laughter. Watching it at 2 or 3 in the morning; laughing like a madman when your wingmates (almost, not all though) are sleeping.
So with all the best things coming to an end I was feeling really bored. Hmmm not bored... you can say emotionally empty after finishing the high adrenaline games and a very senti finish off in Friends. With all this happening I was in no mood to blog. Except, except for now. The reason - cause its exam time. The best time when your brain starts dreaming and finds N number of ways to vile away time. I dont know but most so called scholars say thats because you dont have good concentration. But I say its because you are feeling tensed, you are unsure if your studying well.

Best remedy... well take a break. Dont do what you normally do in your so called breaks like watching TV or playing games like me. Spend sometime in open air or somewhere you relatively feel calmer and relax. Think over what you have mugged and make a strategy how you gonna finish the rest of the stuff.

Well guys, its time for me to mug as well. This is all the time I had to blog (The game I was installing is ready :P). So next time we meet, these damn end sems will be in the past
.

Au revoir !! Dont give up, Put
FIGHT!!

Jack of all trades: to be or not to be...

Remember when u were younger your thoughts and activities used to be much wider than what they are now. As one grows older he/she becomes more focused on fewer n fewer topics.Well not that its bad knowing in detail about some specific things, but it is bad if its done at the expense of keeping urself in touch with other things. One cannot fail to notice that this is so very similar to our academic curriculum. You start with a broad base n then taper out as u progress ahead with it. Ya science has and can only progress based on this concept, but not an individual.

Its quite easy to note that most successful people are those who dont follow such a policy. You might ask how do you define "successful people"? Well I ll keep that to another day, for the present let it be any (sane) definition u wanna put.Coming back to the statement I made at the beginning of the para, isnt it true? But most people scoff at the term 'Jack of all trades'. Why is it be so? Actually if u see carefully, being a Jack will give you a better chance of solving a problem, any random problem. It also gives u a better chance to adapt to changing random circumstances than any specific specialised person. It just doesnt apply only to these Darwinian concepts but also to real day to day life situations.

K, given chance to spend a week with a mathematician or a Jack, whom would u prefer? Here when I mean mathematician I mean he is only and only a mathematician and has no other dimension. K you might say all mathematicians are geeks and you dont want to spend a week with a geek (well who would want to!!). K wht if he/she is a specialist in say birds or politics or philanthropy or astrology or sports or romance? Hmmm... lets see if its the last one i dont think many of us would mind, but wht if I extend the week to a year or two thn? Surely most (believing that insane people do exist in this world :P ) would by far prefer a person who is good at all of these but is not a master in any. And why is the answer so? Simply because that person will have a lot more things to talk of and will not bore you to death on some particular topic.

The point I m trying to make is why, WHY one should be envious of people who are 'studs' in doing some particular thing? All each one of us should be really bothered is-are we good at a good number of things? Can each one of us call oneself a "Jack of all trades" for a set of things in which one's good and comfortable. If u can do well in 2 things say sports like playing table tennis and some acad like chemistry and ur much coveted friend is a god in physics; well let him/her be. You should feel that ur a much capable person overall than him/her but also one shouldnt forget to respect ur friends 'god'ness.

But in the end individual perspective is all that should matter, so if u still feel being a god only will give you satisfaction then go ahead; but if there's anyone out there who feels being a Jack is much better, then I m with u dude...

Nite outs

Kim puts niteouts. Oh no no, not for mugging. Mugging is the last thing he has on his mind. In fact thr is only one thing in his mind n thats gaming. It might be some chunda game like AOE to hi funda ones like COD4 n Crysis. He just loves playing thm in the nite. The sound of a gunbattle r the horn call of clan might unnerve some in the dead of the night, but not for him. He prefers the silence the nights offer him to let him be one with his game.
Not that i ve tried talking to him off this habit. But its in vain, he keeps coming to this point that one has to play a game at a stretch to get the essence of the game and to do full justice to the developer. And after a long hard week, he feels its something he deserves.Well now i dont know wht to do, but for the present i ll leave him to his business; hoping time will change him...
